Langenbrunner Team USA Captain;Parise gets an "A"

Team USA named Devils Captain Jamie Langenbrunner their own captain for the 2010 Winter Olympics in Vancouver. This was the best choice by far for Team USA, as they have gone in a different direction than the last time they competed for gold. Langenbrunner, Chris Drury and Brian Rafalski are the only returning Olympians from the 2006 Turin games. The reason I say Langenbrunner was the best choice as Captain is the fact that he has shown he can shoulder the load of being a captain on a top NHL team. I understand Chris Drury is the captain of the Rangers and he is a hard working player, but his team has been quite inconsistent, just like Drury over the last two years. Langenbrunner had a career year last year while leading New Jersey and he is continuing the stellar play this season while the Devils are atop the Eastern Conference. My fellow blogger for the Rangers, Jordan Alpert talks about the perplexity of Drury not being named as an alternate captainover at, which I can agree with. Drury may not be the best option for the “C” in the Olympics, he surely is deserving of an “A”, and you just can’t argue with how hard the guy plays. Never the less, Team USA has made the best choice for them, Jamie has proven to be a wonderful leader in New Jersey and it has even improved his game. We Americans can only hope to see the same results in Vancouver in hopes that being the Captain of the USA squad will only elevate his game to an all time high. As for who did get named to the alternate captain roles, fellow line mate Zach Parise got an “A”, as well as Ryan Sutter from Nashville, Brian Rafalski of the Wings and the very talented Dustin Brown from Los Angeles. I would expect Lags and Parise to be on the same line in ‘Couver being as they have shown vast amounts of chemistry with one another in Jersey. All in all, I think Team USA made the right choice with Jamie as the Captain and I hope everyone else can agree, he was the right choice.

If any one disagrees with the choice, perhaps tomorrow’s game against the Rangers, pitting fellow USA teammates Langenbrunner and Parise against Drury and Ryan Callahan, will show Lags to be the better man. The game is set in The Garden for a 7 EST start. GO DEVILS!
