Finland Gets USA Gold Rushed

AUTHOR: | IN: Devils | COMMENTS: 2 Comments

I am probably the biggest fool in the world right now because I actually thought that today’s game between USA & Finland was going to be competitive. I could not have been more wrong. In all actuality, what I saw was the real Mikka Kiprusoff show up, who chokes and plays poorly in big games and boy did he ever have a melt down today. At just 2:04 into the game, Kipper came out to play a puck but the US was pressuring, so he froze and turned the puck right over to Ryan Malone, leaving the net wide open [...]

Beware the Fins…

AUTHOR: | IN: Devils | COMMENTS: None Yet

Team USA is just one win away from being in the Gold Medal game. First, however, they have a tough group of Finnish players in their way. The Fins are in the medal round for the second consecutive Olympics as they were in the Gold Medal game in 2006 against the eventual winners, Sweden. Now, lets think about this, with all the talent teams like Russia or the Czech’s have, how is it that Finland always seems to hang around? Well the answer is in the way they play the game. They thrive on the smaller ice surface, much as [...]

Parise Shines as USA Advances

AUTHOR: | IN: Devils | COMMENTS: None Yet

Team USA advance into the Olympic Semifinals today after a hard fought and near upset from the Swiss Team. New Jersey Devil Zach Parise shined the brightest out of the American stars, getting the two goals the US had in the 2-0 victory. The go-ahead goal came in the third period to vault the US ahead of Switzerland and putting an end to the goose eggs on the board. The goal occurred when the Americans got a power play after a tripping call went against the Swiss. After a pile up in front of the net, Parise would eventually get [...]

Men’s Olympic Tourny Underway

AUTHOR: | IN: Devils | COMMENTS: None Yet

Day 1 of the Men’s Olympic Tournament has concluded, when all teams who were expected to win, did. The United States kicked the day off with a 3-1 win over a defensive minded Swiss team. The US team had some pretty looking plays from their younger guys, like David Backes, who went coast to coast for a goal. Devils Captain (and US Captain) Jamie Langenbrunner said after the game that the team has “room to grow” as one. Hopefully, that happens quickly because of how the tounrmament favorites in Canada and Russia looked. Canada drubbed Scandanavia’s worst hockey team, Norway, [...]

Kovy Set to Debut Tonight vs. Leafs

AUTHOR: | IN: Devils | COMMENTS: 1 Comment

Tonight the Devils will be taking on the Maple Leafs for the third time in their last four games. They have split the last two games played and tonight’s game is a special one indeed. It will be the debut game for the Devils newest acquisition, Ilya Kovalchuk. It was breaking news that got out last evening that the Devils had acquired the three time all-star for Niclas Bergfors, Johnny Oduya, prospect Patrice Cormier and a first round draft pick. Jersey also received D Anssi Salmela and each team swapped second round draft picks in the next Entry Draft. Kovalchuk [...]

Devils Land Kovy

AUTHOR: | IN: Devils | COMMENTS: 1 Comment

It is being reported from multiple sources, including the initial alert I received on my phone from ESPN in which Pierre LeBrun is saying that All-Star Ilya Kovalchuk is heading to New Jersey. Details on what made this deal come to fruition and who New Jersey had to give up will follow, I do have a sneaky idea it may involve Brian Rolston or Travis Zajac.
