The Devils have really turned it on lately. With the chance to move into fourth place in the Eastern Conference, the Devils made the most of their opportunity in Montreal. Although Montreal has had a down year, they have been playing better lately.
The tip in was the scoring play of choice early on. The Devils opened the scoring with a goal from Zach Parise, which was tipped in off of a Kovalchuk shot. Then late in the second period, Clarkson tipped in a shot from Elias that was dumped in from the point. In the third, the Canadiens finally got on the board with a goal from Max Pacioretty. Matt Taormina closed out the scoring with his first goal of the year on a shot from the point.
The Devils leapfrogged both the Penguins and the Flyers to move into fourth place in the East. The Devils now have 72 points, and are 9 points behind the Rangers. This was the eighth consecutive win for the Devils in Montreal.
