Just 11 days short of his 40th birthday, Martin Brodeur played a great game making 43 saves to propel the Devils to the second round of the playoffs. Once again the Devils got an early lead, but could not hold it. Early in the first, Adam Henrique scored with a redirection, and in the second period, Stephen Gionta scored to make it 2-0 for the Devils.
Penalties once again were a problem for the Devils. Peter Harrold was called for holding after getting tangled up with Kris Versteeg. Stephen Weiss of the Panthers scored on the ensuing power play, ripping a shot by Brodeur. Later, Marcel Goc scored on the power play after Marek Zidlicky was penalized for sending the puck out of play in the Devils zone.
Fortunately for the Devils, Adam Henrique was playing with confidence last night. After scoring in the first, Henrique drew two power plays with breakaway chances, and scored the game winner in double OT. Note: The Devils next game is Sunday in Philadelphia @ 3 PM against the Flyers.
