Morning NJ fans! It sounds like SOME type of progress is being made in the NHL labor talks. It’s something at least, right? Lockout looms in 17 days. Lot of good reading stuff today so we’ll have another post in the afternoon in regards to more Devils related items as well as a new article for your reading pleasure. Have a good one!
Yesterday, the NHL submitted a second CBA proposal to the NHL Players Association. It is pretty encouraging considering about a month after the season ended there were no official talks. Seems they are making up for some lost time. Let’s hope it materializes quickly. ESPN has more details HERE.
On the other hand, 40-year-old and long-time NHL forward Mike Knuble thinks it will be a long time before the league resolves their issues. Peter Wallner of MLive.com has the story HERE.
Remember Fred Braithwaite…the goaltender…from a zillion years ago? Well apparently he wants to get back into the NHL. He has been playing the last four years in the Deutsch Elite League. He hasn’t played in the NHL since 2004 with the Columbus Blue Jackets. He is hoping for an opportunity. While that would be awesome…I hope he isn’t holding his breath. Full story HERE.
The city of Virginia Beach of the state of Virginia is hoping for a NHL or NBA team. Yea……..part of me (and by part of me, I mean all of me) doesn’t see that working out. Economic officials just unveiled a plan to build a $350 million arena. Stay tuned on that one for sure. Check out the article HERE.
The city of Glendale has extended their arena agreement with the NHL for another month, buying time for Greg Jamison to become the owner of the Phoenix Coyotes. That is really encouraging to see. What a run to the Conference Finals for that franchise. Hopefully that and some other factors are enough for them to stick around. The Toronto Sun has the story HERE.
