Well, hockey directly affecting the future of the New Jersey Devils is back in full swing. It started on a sour note, however, as the Albany Devils of the American Hockey League fell to the Manchester Monarchs, the AHL affiliate of the Los Angeles Kings by a 2-1 mark on Saturday night.
Chad Wiseman scored the only goal for the Devils. His tally 8:18 into the first period gave Albany the 1-0 lead. Alexander Urbom, who has seen time in NJ the last two seasons, had one of the assists. The lead was extremely short-lived as the Monarchs posted a power play goal 29 seconds later thanks to David Kolomatis.
Kolomatis added a second PP marker with 5:50 left in the opening period to cap the scoring and claim the victory for Manchester.
Goaltender Keith Kinkaid made 25 stops for Albany.
Adam Henrique (’11-’12) and Tim Sestito (’09-’12) are the alternate captains while Jay Leach (’08-’09, ’10-’11) is the captain of the squad. Other Devils players that were in action included Jacob Josefson, Mattias Tedenby and Adam Larsson. Josefson led the team with four shots. Henrique was interiewed after the game.
Albany is back in action on Friday at 7 p.m. when the Syracuse Crunch, the AHL affiliate of the Tampa Bay Lightning, come to town.
