Ilya Kovalchuk continues to burn it up for SKA St. Petersburg. The New Jersey Devils forward totaled a goal and an assist in a 3-2 win on the road against Atlant on Monday.
Kovalchuk started the scoring a few minutes into the second period when he took a pass from Viktor Tikhonov and used an Atlant player as a screen, beating the goaltender glove side for his seventh goal of the season. With the game tied at one, the Russian added a helper on a goal at 13:48 of the period by Vladimir Tarasenko to make the score 2-1. Check it out in the highlight video below; he makes a nifty backhand pass from behind the net. The two teams traded goals early in the third period to cap the scoring.
Kovalchuk took 21 shifts and logged 19:08 of ice time. As of Tuesday, he is tied for fourth in the league with 20 points and fifth with 13 points.
