During the game on February 5th, against the New York Rangers, Devils forward Dainius Zubrus suffered a wrist injury that has since kept him out of the lineup. After exploratory surgery, performed on February 14th, the injury was repaired and will require a 4-6 week recovery period for the 34-year-old, left winger.

In a wise move by New Jersey GM Lou Lamoriello, the Devils have already replaced the forward with former New Jersey Devil Alexei Ponikarovsky. Ponikarovsky was acquired from the Winnipeg Jets on Wednesday night for the Devils’ 2013 seventh-round pick and 2014 fourth-round pick. “Poni” was an important piece of the Devils team last year that made it all the way to the Stanley Cup finals before falling to the Los Angeles Kings in 6 games. He will no doubt prove to be a solid addition to the team and a suitable replacement for Zubrus while he recovers from wrist surgery.
