First Look Preview: New Jersey Devils at Tampa Bay Lighting 3/29/13

The New Jersey Devils step on the ice against the Tampa Bay Lightning tonight at the Tampa Bay Times Forum. This is the third and final meeting of the two teams for the season.

Last two meetings: 2/7/13 Devils 4-2, 3/5/13 Lightning 5-2.

The Big Story:
The Devils are playing their second game without forward Ilya Kovalchuk. The Lightning are playing their second game under head coach Jon Cooper. Both teams are battling injuries and need every win they can get. The Devils have gotten points in three straight games entering tonight, and continue to stay in the playoff race.

Who’s Smokin:

Martin Brodeur has earned points in his last three starts since coming back from injury. Brodeur has only allowed four goals in those three starts and now has a 10-2-4 record this season.

Andrei Loktionov has three goals and one assist in his last five games.

Steven Stamkos and Martin St. Louis both have three points in their last two games. Stamkos leads the NHL in goals and St. Louis is second in assists.

What to Watch For:

Devils - The Devils are coming off of a shootout loss to the Ottawa Senators Monday night. They came back from being down about two minutes into the game and outshot the Sens 34-14. The Devils are also well rested after spending a few days in sunny Florida before tonights game.

Lightning - The Bolts are coming off of a 2-1 win over the Buffalo Sabres Tuesday night. The win was new head coach Jon Coopers first win since taking over and also snapped a three game losing skid. The Lightning have one of the most potent offenses in the NHL with 3.18 goals per game, but have a high 2.97 goals allowed. Tonight probably will be a high scoring affair.

Devils - Ilya Kovalchuk is on Injured Reserve with a shoulder injury, Alexei Ponikarovsky has a lower-body injury, but will play, and Dainus Zubrus is still out since his wrist surgery in February.

Lighting - Vincent Lecavalier, Anders Lindbach, Ryan Malone, and Pierre-Cedric Labrie are all on Injured Reserve. BJ Crombeen is also out with a lower-body injury.
