Boucher previously signed a three year entry-level contract with the Devils after his OHL season ended.
The 2011 fourth round draft pick set a new Sarnia Sting team record, previously held by Steven Stamkos, with 62 goals on the year. Boucher also tallied two goals and three assists in his first playoff game. However, the Sting got swept in the opening round.
The Devils top defensive prospect Jon Merrill also agreed to an amateur tryout with Albany today. The 21-year-old junior at the University of Michigan decided to leave college with one year of eligibility remaining. He also signed a three year entry-level deal with the Devils earlier in the week.
Both Boucher and Merrill’s contracts do not start until the beginning of the 2013-2014 regular season.
Also, both players are ready and eligible to play in Albany’s game tonight against the Hershey Bears. Boucher has already appeared in one game with Albany last season, but did not put up any points. Merrill is looking to make his AHL debut, which could very well be tonight.
