Today in NHL History- April 28-29

Here’s another look at some NHL history as the 2013 NHL Stanley Cup Playoffs approach. History will certainly be made in this year’s playoffs.

April 28

1993- Dale Hunter of the Washington Capitals blindsided Pierre Turgeon of the New York Islanders on this date 20 years ago. Later, Hunter was suspended for 21 games. This year’s Washington Capitals do not want to have to worry about something like this. They’re going to need all they have to beat the New York Rangers. Funny enough, Dale Hunter is the former head coach of the Washington Capitals.

April 29

1997- Craig MacTavish announced his retirement from the National Hockey League on this day 16 years ago. Playing in 1,093 NHL  games, MacTavish netted 213 goals and collected 267 assists for a total of 480 points. He also played in 193 playoff games, registering 58 points(20 goals, 38 assists).
