Boston, Massachusetts - Gripping onto a 2-1 lead at the 1:30 mark in the third period it was certain that the Boston Bruinswere going to stay alive and force a game seven back in Chicago, but those hopes died rather quickly.
With Tuukka Rask slamming the door shut on 26-of-27 shots, the Chicago Blackhawks were in desperate need of a game tying goal to force the fourth overtime game in the series. Just seconds after Blackhawks goaltender Corey Crawford sprinted to the bench to get the extra attacker on the ice, Brian Bickell scored his ninth goal of the playoffs to tie the game at two with 1:16 remaining.
Down but not out the Bruins had every hope of winning the cup stolen right from their hands seventeen seconds later when Dave Bolland beat Rask to give the Blackhawks the advantage as well as the Stanley Cup.
It was an amazing series from start to finish with three exciting overtime games, including a triple-overtime debut of the 2013 Stanley Cup Final. Win or lose, both teams and fans should be proud to have themselves in the final. It is a rarity to be in the series as a few teams in the league have not had that honor yet.
Without further a due, congratulations to the Chicago Blackhawks for being the 2013 Stanley Cup Champions and Patrick Kane for being named the Conn Smythe Trophy winner!
