That’s what the lovable Ron Bergundy would say at a time like this.
Goaltender Johan Hedberg has been placed on waivers and has since been bought out by the team after Lou Lamoriello and the Devils couldn’t find a more favorable solution for Martin Brodeur’s former backup. Lou suggested a move to the AHL, Johan said he would rather not. They looked around for a trade but could not find a team that both Lou and Johan could agree on due to his no-trade clause.
Hedberg will become an unrestricted free agent tomorrow at noon and Lou isn’t the only person hoping he finds a home quickly. It has been reported that one factor in his decision could be that his family is in NJ so he would want to stay close.
Johan Hedberg was a man who was stuck in a bad situation. He never got into trouble with the team and has always done everything he could to help his team out. He really was a classy guy and I for one certainly hope he finds a spot on another team or as a coach.
Via Rich Chere on Twitter:
Lou Lamoriello on Hedberg: “One of the more difficult decisions I’ve been faced with in many years. It’s unfortunate. It’s not his fault…

Lamoriello: “I had to get my heart out of the way to make the trade (for Schneider). It was a franchise decision, an opportunity.” — Rich Chere (@Ledger_NJDevils) July 4, 2013
Moose was loved by the Devils Army, even when we hated him most. He was always committed to the team and never caused problems. He always wanted to give his all, even if he knew it wasn’t good enough. Here’s to Johan Hedberg: A classy guy who didn’t deserve to leave this way, but had no other choice in front of him. I hope to see you soon within the Devils organization. Lou certainly would love to see it also:
Lamoriello also said Hedberg is type of person he’d like to have back in organization in some capacity after his playing days are over.
