The Word from Practice: 9/18 Edition

Here are some random musings from today’s practice courtesy of Fire and Ice Staff Writer Tom Gulitti:

A lot of veterans participated in practice today. It was nice seeing some shakeup in the lines notably Travis Zajac working with Ryane Clowe and Michael Ryder. It’s also good to see that Clowe and Ryder are together once again. Dainius Zubrus, Patrik Elias, and Damien Brunner would make a very interesting line but I see Elias taking the first line with Jagr. Zubrus and Brunner could ultimately be together though.

The line of Rostislav Olesz, Andrei Loktionov, and Steve Bernier could definitely be an actual line if Zubrus does not move to RW this season. It was also nice to see Ryan Carter and Stephen Gionta play together considering they could end up together too.

The Rostislav Olesz vs. Mattias Tedenby war wages on by the looks of the lines today. It really seems like DeBoer and co. want to get a good look of the two LW’s to see who would get the roster spot if they do indeed sign Damien Brunner.

There’s a lot of shaking up in the defensive lines but it could easily be the feeling out process to see who works best with each other. These lines, minus Andy Greene and Adam Larsson, probably won’t be the defensive pairs this season.

Gulitti later confirmed with Jon Merrill and he will be playing tomorrow.
