NJD vs. MTL: Redemption for Martin Brodeur

The New Jersey Devils are 2-1 this preseason and will look to put up a good showing at the Bell Centre tonight against the Montreal Canadiens. Martin Broduer will hope to redeem his disappointing preseason opener against the New York Islanders in which the defense didn’t give him too much help.

Tom Gulitti attended practice and will not be attending the game tonight in Montreal. By process of elimination, he said that whoever practiced today wouldn’t be playing and he posted on his blog Fire and Ice who would be playing.

So, from eliminating those skating this morning and those injured, the Devils’ lineup tonight in Montreal will come from these remaining players on the roster (13 forwards, 7 defensemen, two goalies). I would not be surprised if there were a couple more Albany assignments today with Rod Pelley and Tim Sestito clearing waivers on Saturday.

Forwards: Dainius Zubrus, Stephen Gionta, Adam Henrique, Jacob Josefson, Michael Ryder, Steve Bernier, Krys Barch, Tim Sestito, Rostislav Olesz, Cam Janssen, Rod Pelley, Stefan Matteau, Mike Sislo.

Defensemen: Adam Larsson, Andy Greene, Mark Fayne, Eric Gelinas, Alex Urbom, Damon Severson, Brandon Burlon.

Goaltenders: Martin Brodeur, Scott Wedgewood.

Mattias Tedenby is still hurting so tonight will be a perfect opportunity for Rostislav Olesz to improve his standing with the team. This game will feature a lot of young talent as a lot of veterans skated in practice today. With the Devils playing tomorrow night, it makes sense to rest a lot of starters for this game.
Martin Brodeur will look to put forth a much better game tonight especially on the heels of Cory Schneider’s most recent shutout on Saturday.
A lot of young defensemen are playing too and more cuts could be made soon after this game or tomorrow’s game.

Here is the Canadiens lineup for tonight (from their website):

Forwards: Brandon Prust, Brendan Gallagher, Tomas Plekanec, Rene Bourque,  Alex Galchenyuk, Travis Moen, Daniel Brière, David Desharnais, Ryan White, Max Pacioretty, Lars Eller, Michaël Bournival.

Defensemen: Jarred Tinordi, Josh Gorges, Francis Bouillon, Raphael Diaz, P.K. Subban, Andrei Markov

Goaltenders Carey Price, Peter Budaj (no starter indicated)

– Tom Gulitti, Fire and Ice

Final Prediction
Devils 2, Canadiens 3
