PHI vs. NJD: Preseason Finale

I want to start this preview off by extending my condolences to the Brodeur family.

Martin and Anthony Brodeur’s father, Denis, has passed away today at the age of 82. He was going to turn 83 on October 12. Earlier today, Tom Gulitti talked to Cory Schneider and Cory said that he would be playing today saying that there was a change in plans. Brodeur revealed that he had to fly to Montreal to see his father. Later, we learned that his father passed away.

Once again everyone at Pucks and Pitchforks sends their sincerest condolences to Anthony, Marty, and the rest of his family.

We will get one more look of Cory Schneider tonight, albeit under unfortunate circumstances.

There are a lot of veterans playing tonight and these are the closest lines we will get to the actual lineups for opening day. Jaromir Jagr won’t play tonight but did skate again and Mattias Tedenby is improving also. Ryan Carter has a minor nagging injury and stated that if it was the regular season, he would be playing.

Patrik Elias seems to have been given the day off. He didn’t skate this morning and apparently will not play tonight. No word has broken about a possible injury either.

The defensive unit out there today may be the pairings we see opening day although it might only differ with Anton Volchenkov and Bryce Salvador switching places.

This will be the last chance the Devils get to fine tune their craft against a team until opening night a week from tonight.
