Winnipeg, M.B. - The New Jersey Devils have now started the season 0-3-3. The factor of tonights game was the power play that went 0-5 tonight, including a 5-on-3 for about 1:15, but failed to score.
The Devils defense played well for the most part of tonight, until the end of the game when there were a lot of breakaways that Cory Schneider stopped.
The offensive game was pitiful tonight to say the least. They took 24 shots and did not score one goal. The Devils have had a problem tonight that has been persistent for the past few games. They continue to shoot directly into defenders. The Jets had 19 blocked shots, nineteen! That is a major problem.
The Jets opened up their scoring late in the first period with a deflection from Evander Kane. It was a strange goal, Cory Schneider made the initial stop, but the rebound hit off of Andy Greene and bounced into the net.
The game was scoreless from there until Kane scored an empty net goal with 57 seconds left in the game.
The Devils were visibly distraught after the goal and seemed lost on the ice. The Jets scored another goal just 20 seconds later.
The Devils fell to 0-3-3, the team and fans are getting restless. There may be a change coming soon, whether it is the injection of a few younger players into the lineup or even the changing of the coach. Either way, the worst start to a season in the teams history is not something to be taken lightly.
The Devils do not play again until Thursday in Ottawa for the last game in this long and horrible road trip.
