Who Gets Sent Down Once Mattias Tedenby Injury Heals

Ryane Clowe sat out of practice at the Prudential Center in Jersey today due to “resting” (per Tom Gulitti). Mattias Tedenby took his place with the forwards and Ryan Carter also returned to practice today.

The New Jersey Devils will have to clear up a roster spot when the Mattias Tedenby injury cloud clears up. While Pete DeBoer hasn’t made it seem like Tedenby will be back on Thursday against the Ottawa Senators, he may be back for Saturday’s game against the New York Rangers.

It doesn’t look like Peter Harrold’s spot is in jeopardy as he practiced again today with Anton Volchenkov with Mark Fayne still on the fritz. That is certainly worrying when Tedenby is knocking on the door for a spot. I don’t see the Devils only going with 6 defensemen and having 0 to back up the starters but you never know.

Ryan Carter also returned to the “CBGB” line today. It is good to see that line back together as they certainly fare better when they are a complete package.

When you look at which forwards could go in favor of “Teddy,” the obvious choice would seem to be Stephen Gionta. Yes, even after my whole thing about the CBGB line working best as a whole.

Truth is, Stephen isn’t playing at an NHL level right now and Jacob Josefson and Rostislav Olesz both have one-way contracts with the team. Gionta has a 2-way deal for his final year of his contract, this season.

My guess would be Stephen Gionta. Even Harrold is on a 1-way contract this season so I would say it is almost definite he is staying with New Jersey and not moving to Albany any time soon.
