The New Jersey Devils and New York Rangers will open their Metropolitan Division history together at the Prudential Center tonight. This game is crucial for both teams as the Rangers are looking to keep the momentum going off their recent win. The Devils wish they even have a win to show for.
After tonight, the Devils will be off for a couple days so 0-8 will stare Pete DeBoer right in the face tonight along with his unemployment papers.
Damien Brunner (presumed out) and Patrik Elias (flu) have not reported to the Prudential Center as of 5:30 (per Tom Gulitti) so it is likely that they will not play tonight. Elias was never officially ruled out but if he has the flu, why would he play?
Damien Brunner left the practice ice early today to get “treatment” and it is also likely he will be out tonight. Rostislav Olesz practiced in Patrik Elias’ spot with Jaromir Jagr and Adam Henrique. It also looks like Andrei Loktionov will play after all tonight and possibly jump in on Brunner’s line.
Now things get testy. The Devils won’t have any forwards available if someone gets hurt tonight so their only options are Adam Larrson and Martin Brodeur.
Speaking of Larsson, he is out tonight as a healthy scratch. This is what Pete DeBoer had to say about it:
DeBoer wouldn’t discuss sitting Larsson, dressing Fayne other than “we’re going with the 20 best players to win a hockey game.”

Wow. That deserves another Fire DeBoer poll just with that quote alone. Pete DeBoer is in serious trouble if he thinks Larsson sitting is the best way to win a hockey game when you look at some of the defenders he has out there *cough* Harrold *cough*.
The Devils need to win this game tonight plain and simple. If they don’t DeBoer’s tightrope is getting thinner and thinner not to mention now people are lighting a fire underneath the tightrope just to scare some sense into him.
At this point, I doubt DeBoer keeps his job past the month of October.
Enjoy the game Devils Army!
