Due to a death in Bryce Salvador’s family, he has been sent home to tend to his family and has been temporarily taken off the active roster. Due to the open hole, the Devils called up Eric Gelinas from Albany to fill the hole.

Gelinas has been a name that the fans have been crying out for and he has finally been given a chance in the NHL.

Gelinas currently has 1 goal and 2 assists in 5 games and holds a +2 rating. He only has 1 game under his NHL resume and that came last year where he totaled a -1 rating.

The Devils have been struggling on defense lately and this move could be the Devils finally giving in and calling up some young fresh talent to challenge the veterans.

Or maybe he is just here until Salvador returns.

Either way, it looks like we will get a taste of Gelinas for at least 1 game possibly 2 if he plays well tonight.

DeBoer even admitted that Peter Harrold has been playing poorly lately and he will be a scratch tonight. Adam Larsson will be paired up with him tonight. Gelinas commented on the fact that he and Larsson played together during the lockout last season on the same line (per TG).

If Gelinas sat the next game, I wouldn’t be too upset but only for the hope that Harrold will get a last chance before he could get sent down. It would be nice to see some competition within the ranks and this could light a fire under Harrold.

Gelinas is also apparently getting powerplay time tonight also so they are throwing him right into the fire to see if he can survive it and stay with the team.
