The New Jersey Devils announced yesterday that rookie defenseman and top prospect Jon Merrill has been placed on injured reserve, retroactive to November 3rd. Merrill was injured in last Sunday’s loss to the Minnesota Wild, after colliding with the Wild’s Torrey Mitchell.

The 1st year pro was taken out of the game and given base line testing, which is NHL protocol to test for concussions. It has been reported that he passed the tests but has “dozens and dozens” of stitches on his face. The Devils describe the injury as “facial lacerations”

If healthy who knew if Merrill would get any ice time with Eric Gelinas and Adam Larsson playing as well as they had.

Patrik Elias and Stephen Gionta are still out for tonight’s game against the New York Rangers, and Martin Brodeur will get the starting nod after posting back to back shutouts.

With the Stadium Series game just two months away the NHL released the team’s logos for the games in LA and NYC. Nothing is out just yet on if the Devils will use that logo instead of the traditional colors, or if they will wear any different jerseys.

The Stadium Series individual tickets will go on sale at 10 A.M, on November 21st, on ticketmaster.com.

The New York Islanders announced that they will be using their “chrome” logo and new jerseys for the game at Yankee Stadium in a press release. I’d look for the old “Christmas jerseys” to be the ones that the Devils use for the game.
