Newark, N.J. - The New Jersey Devils have dropped their second game in a row after losing 3-1 to the Winnipeg Jets tonight.
Jets forward, Mark Scheifele scored his first goal in 25 games tonight, which was his second of the year. Scheifele received the puck on a cross-ice pass from Michael Frolik that left him wide open to finish the shot over the glove of Martin Brodeur.
The Devils played really sloppy this game, failing to complete passes, getting blocked, and failing to keep the blue line. However, the game was fairly even through the first period and the Devils were on the fringe of scoring a few times.
Evander Kane surprised Brodeur with a quick shot off the face off and his seventh goal of the year. Marek Zidlicky was screening Brodeur and the quickness of the shot just beat him through the five-hole.
The Devils almost cut the lead in half when Adam Henrique and Patrik Elias had a 2-1 short-handed attempt that Elias failed when hit the crossbar.
Devin Setoguchi would add an empty net goal in the final minute to give the Jets a 3-1 win.
The Devils play again on Wednesday against the Carolina Hurricanes. The Hurricanes earned a huge 4-1 win over the Ottawa Senators on Sunday and are off until Wednesday night.
