New Jersey Devils vs Carolina Hurricanes – Game 2 of 4 – November 29, 2013
Devils (9-11-5) TV – MSG+
Canes (10-10-5) TV – FSS
The New Jersey Devils and Carolina Hurricanes will complete their home-and-home series tonight at the PNC Arena in Raleigh, North Carolina.
The Hurricanes won the first leg of the series on Wednesday, 4-3, at the Prudential Center. The Canes dominated early on in the game and, as usual, the Devils woke up in the 3rd period and nearly mounted another comeback.
A frequent problem with the Devils this season has been the fact that they live on playing from behind. If they are behind in the third period, they wake up and play better because they realize that they are about to lose the game. This team shows little energy or explosiveness when the players are supposed to be at their freshest.
It is a trend that they will need to fix.
Damien Brunner and Anton Volchenkov will both return to the lineup tonight. Brunner was a healthy scratch on Wednesday and Volchenkov was just officially activated off of IR. Peter Harrold will be sitting out tonight’s game along with RW Cam Janssen.
Cory Schneider will also be starting tonight. He hasn’t been the happiest camper recently regarding the “frustrating” situation at goalie. Schneider and Pete DeBoer reportedly talked and everything is apparently OK.
But we all know that’s probably to keep the media quiet.
Late to the party, yes, but there was a roster spot open when they immediately returned Seth Helgeson to Albany. That led to Volchenkov’s return.
This home-and-home is a key Metropolitan Division matchup with the Devils and Hurricanes floating in the same area of the standings. The Devils can tie the Hurricanes tonight and put themselves back in a spot to claim second place by the end of next week.
The Hurricanes have won two straight after going 0-3-1 in a 4-game span.
