New Jersey Devils vs Buffalo Sabres – Game 1 of 3 – November 30, 2013
Devils (10-11-5) TV – MSG
Sabres (6-20-1) TV – MSGB
The New Jersey Devils and Buffalo Sabres will get together for the first time this season in the only meeting at the Prudential Center this season. The other two games will take place at the First Niagara Center.
The Devils are coming off of a very impressive 5-2 win against the Carolina Hurricanes last night in North Carolina. They scored 4 goals in the 3rd period and, despite turning it on again in the 3rd period, the Devils had a lot of good chances and they exploded in the third period instead of just peaking.
Cory Schneider will be starting tonight coming off of his 3rd win of the season against the Hurricanes. He is 3-5-3 this season with a 1.89 goals against average. Pete DeBoer has already determined that this will give the start to Martin Brodeur for Monday’s game against the Montreal Canadiens. It could be one of the last time Brodeur visits his hometown in the crease.
Jaromir Jagr continues to shine on the Devils this season. He has been playing hard, carrying the puck into the zone, and gets a lot of shots on net. In fact, his 61 shots on goal leads the team for the season. He has 11 goals and 11 assists for 22 points this season (all lead the team) in 26 games.
With the New York Rangers winning earlier today, they distanced themselves in the standings. The Washington Capitals are tied with the Rangers for second at 28 points. The Devils can pull within one point of that tonight with a win. The Capitals are also playing tonight at the Nassau Veterans Memorial Coliseum to play the New York Islanders, a team that now sits in the cellar of the Metropolitan Division.
The Sabres also played last night winning at home against the Toronto Maple Leafs in a 3-2 overtime win. That win gave them just their 6th for the season. It is looking like it will be a long season in Buffalo this year.
For the Sabres, Ryan Miller has played well against the Devils going 6-2-2 and a 1.59 GAA in his last 10 games against them. He sits at 5-15-0 with a 3.05 GAA this season. (ESPN)
New Jersey is also 4-0-3 in their last 7 meetings.
