Coming off of a satisfying 1-0 win over the cellar dweller Buffalo Sabres, the Devils have made a move to Albany to bring up a forward. It isn’t Joe Whitney but Tim Sestito will have to do for now.
The move is being seen as more of an insurance for Ryan Carter, who is dealing with a minor injury and is not traveling to Montreal.
Adam Larsson was designated to injured reserve to open the roster spot and is retroactive to when he was injured on November 23 against the San Jose Sharks. He is eligible to come off of IR at any time.
Sestito currently has 5 goals and 8 assists in Albany this season. Pete DeBoer said there is a “definite possibility” that Sestito will play. I am always for the youth trying to claim a roster spot and beat out other young guys such as Jacob Josefson or Mattias Tedenby.
While the logical recall would have been Reid Boucher or Whitney, I do not necessarily have a problem with this move. As I stated, Sestito is having a good year and could use the minimal opportunity. Sestito is not waiver exempt (In Lou We Trust) this season but the Devils shouldn’t really run into many problems on the waiver wire with Tim.
On the other hand, you would think the Devils would want to avoid the waiver wire as much as possible after losing Alexander Urbom earlier in the season.
Bryce Salvador (foot stress fracture) and Ryane Clowe (concussion symptoms) are still on the road to recovery with both skating on their own. While Salvador and Clowe were both struggling when they went down, a little more stability in the lineup never hurts and both went down while the team was struggling mightily this season.
