New Jersey Devils vs Detroit Red Wings – Game 1 of 3 – December 6, 2013
Devils (11-12-6) TV – MSG+
Red Wings (14-8-7) TV – FSDT
National TV – RDS
The New Jersey Devils and Detroit Red Wings will meet for the first time this season at the Prudential Center. The Red Wings and Devils will meet in March when they will complete their season series with a home-and-home.
Cory Schneider (4-5-4, 1.81 GAA) will be opposite Jonas Gustavsson (7-0-1, 2.15 GAA) in net tonight. The Devils need to scramble around for some wins quickly before other teams continue to win their games and put the Devils in a hole.
The Devils have dropped to 6th in the Metropolitan Division as the Carolina Hurricanes, New York Rangers, and the Philadelphia Flyers all sit ahead of the Devils in the standings with the Flyers being tied with them. The good news is that the Devils are a win away from tying second place depending on if the Hurricanes win tonight.
The Devils will be sitting Mattias Tedenby, Damien Brunner, and Peter Harrold tonight. Peter DeBoer showed plenty of displeasure with Brunner’s play as of late and having him play against his former team didn’t even change DeBoer’s mind.
Reid Boucher will have his second NHL start tonight coming off of an assist and a shootout goal in Wednesday’s game against the Montreal Canadiens. Plenty of eyes will be on him as he will look to be as productive as people hope he can be.
Michael Ryder will also be looking to continue righting the ship as he has scored in back-to-back games and is hopefully off of his early season slump.
In brief injury news, Ryane Clowe was available to talk to the media today and mentioned that he has been symptom free for a couple of weeks and will participate in the next full team practice. There currently is not a timetable for return however.
Detroit is 9-3-1 on the road this season and 10-4-4 against their new conference. They currently sit in a tie for 3rd but technically hold the first wild card spot in the conference.
With Montreal’s recent success, they actually jumped the Boston Bruins for first place in the Atlantic Division. The Devils currently sit in the 5th wild card spot.
