Keith Kinkaid stopped 14 shots in overtime alone as the Albany Devils defeated the Binghamton Senators, 3-2.
Harri Pesonan would open up the scoring in the first period with a goal that was assisted by Kelly Zajac and Raman Hrabarenka. The puck was barely kept in the zone and Pesonan took the puck and ripped off a shot that passed Andrew Hammond.
In the second period, Binghamton would equalize the game on a goal from Jean Gabriel-Pageau. Pageau received a beautiful feed to catch Kinkaid playing catch-up by the time the goal was scored.
Matt Puempel would give Binghamton the 2-1 lead. Puempel fired a shot that looked to beat Kinkaid through his 5-hole. Kinkaid had some great saves during this game and really kept his team in the game. He would stop 37 shots, gave up only one shootout goal and made 4 shootout saves.
However, the game was still 2-1 Binghamton until Albany tied it in the 2nd period when Mike Sislo received a rebound and hit it off of Hammond’s glove. Zajac notched his second assist along with Reece Scarlett’s first of the game.
The game was scoreless in the third period and in overtime where Binghamton would blank the Devils in shots 14-0.
In the shootout, Joe Whitney and C Artem Demkov faked out Hammond to score Albany’s shootout goals. While Andre Petersson got one past Kinkaid, Jim O’Brien was rejected to give the Devils the thrilling 3-2 win.
Kinkaid earned his 9th win of the season and is 9-3, 2.26 GAA, and a .913 save percentage. Stopping 37 of 39 shots will help those last two stats.
Kelly Zajac notched his 9th and 10th assists of the season and has been pretty hot lately. He also had one shot on goal. Pesonan scored his second goal and his 9th point of the season on his only shot of the game. Scarlett registered his 5th assist and 8th point of the season, had a -1 rating and tallied 3 shots.
Hrabarenka notched his 7th assist and 8th point of the season while registering 2 shots on goal. Sislo had 2 penalites, a hooking call and high-sticking call but had 3 shots and his 8th goal of the season. He is tied for 3rd on the team in points with 14.
The Devils are now tied for 6th in the Easter Conference and are in second in the Northeast Division.
