The New Jersey Devils and Columbus Blue Jackets will meet tonight at the Nationwide Arena in Columbus, Ohio for the second installment of the Metropolitan Division series. This will be the second meeting of 4 and the last time the two will meet at the Nationwide Arena this season. The Blue Jackets won the first meeting on October 22nd in Columbus by a score of 4-1.

Martin Brodeur will be tonight’s starter in goal.

The Devils are coming off of a thrilling 4-3 victory over the New York Rangers on Saturday night. Eric Gelinas was the hero of the game when he slapped home a powerplay goal in the overtime period.

Reid Boucher will be skating on the top line tonight, skating with Jaromir Jagr and Travis Zajac. This is a huge step for the 20-year-old and it one can assume that Jagr is going to push the kid as hard as possible to make him better. This could also be a way of Pete DeBoer and company showing how much faith they have in the Top 5 Devils Prospect.

After it seemed like Peter Harrold simply had a “minor” injury and would play tonight, alas he will not. Harrold did not make the trip to Columbus but Marek Zidlicky is good to go tonight to give the Devils a full 6 defensive unit.

Columbus is absolutely riddled with injuries. Marian Gaborik, James Wisniewski, and Nathan Horton are all injured for the Jackets. Wisniewski is second on the team in points (18) and first in assists (16). Gaborik and Horton are guys that, even when they aren’t producing, could still contribute in plenty of other ways.

Columbus is coming off of a 2-1 loss to the Pittsburgh Penguins last night at the CONSOL Energy Center in Pittsburgh. Columbus is 5-5-0 in their last 10 games while they are 3-5-1 in the Metropolitan Division. They are also 7-7-1 at home this season.

The Devils have a chance to jump into third in a tight Metropolitan Division and reclaim a playoff spot. Depending on how the Carolina Hurricanes and the New York Rangers fare tonight, the Devils can lead the two teams by one point. The Rangers and Hurricanes are tied at 31 points for 3rd place in the division.

Columbus can gain some serious ground in a tightening division tonight. They sit at 27 points and can pull within one point of the Devils tonight for 5th place.
