Peter DeBoer announced that Cory Schneider will start in net tomorrow night against the Anaheim Ducks. There were also a couple other noteworthy things that happened at practice today. Schneider has given up 3 goals in his past 3 games (0-2-1) and has 65 saves in 74 shots.
This most likely means that Martin Brodeur will get the start against the Washington Capitals in Washington, D.C. on Saturday night coming off of last night’s win.
Ryane Clowe jumped onto Dainius Zubrus’ line with Zubrus “resting” today. Clowe mentioned that he got the “impression” from Lou Lamoriello and DeBoer that he wouldn’t play in this weekend’s back-to-back. DeBoer did not rule him out for tomorrow night.
Andy Greene and Anton Volchenkov were also “resting” today and did not participate in practice. Volchenkov was involved in a near-brawl with Clarke McArthur at the end of the 2nd period last night. Volchenkov didn’t back down, but clearly didn’t want to get involved in an obvious penalty-minute-drawing play.
Tim Sestito skated with Stephen Gionta and Steve Bernier while Cam Janssen skated on the extra line with Mattias Tedenby and Jacob Josefson.
While the game doesn’t have big implications in the Eastern Conference due to the inter-conference matchup, the Devils are locked in a 4-way tie in the Wild Card chase for 3rd place, the first place out of a wild card spot. The Philadelphia Flyers, New York Rangers, and Ottawa Senators are tied with the Devils.
The Columbus Blue Jackets sit in 7th at 32 points (2 points behind the Devils and co.) and the Florida Panthers sit in 8th at 31 points.
In the division, it’s a 3-way tie (everyone minus Ottawa) with everyone only behind the 3rd place Carolina Hurricanes by 1 point.
