Preview: New Jersey Devils vs. Columbus Blue Jackets

The Ghost of Ryane Clowe Past will be returning tonight at the Prudential Center to help the New Jersey Devils take on the Columbus Blue Jackets.

Clowe’s last game came on October 13th in a 3-0 loss to the Winnipeg Jets. He currently has 1 assist on the season in 6 games and a -5 rating.

When he went down with his injury, the Devils stood at 0-3-3 for the season.

There will certainly be very mixed reactions to Ryane Clowe returning. Tim Sestito was not at practice this morning and will be assigned to Albany once the roster freeze expires at Midnight tonight. The roster was frozen across the NHL due to the holiday break.

One of the main reasons some people won’t be too thrilled with Clowe’s return is that when the “old guys” return, the fresh talent has to go. Everyone’s eyes immediately lock on the likes of Reid Boucher, Jon Merrill, and even dare I say Eric Gelinas.

If they don’t get sent down, then Lou Lamoriello needs to make the tough decision and send down the likes of Jacob Josefson, Peter Harrold, Mark Fayne, or Mattias Tedenby.

A guy like Tedenby could use the consistent ice time as he tore it up in his limited conditioning assignment in Albany a couple of weeks ago.

And speaking of players returning, Bryce Salvador could be activated off of IR come tomorrow morning.
