New Jersey Devils vs New York Islanders – Game 2 of 5 – December 28, 2013
Devils (15-16-8) TV – MSG+2
Islanders (11-20-7) TV – MSG+
The Devils and Islanders will play for only the second time this season. This game will be the first at the Nassau Coliseum this season. The Devils lost the first meeting 4-3 in a shootout.
Anton Volchenkov did not participate in warm-ups so Eric Gelinas will remain at defense amidst grumblings that the Devils would play 7 D and have Gelinas play at wing. Volchenkov is reported to have “total-body soreness.”
Bryce Salvador will be returning tonight for the first time since his injury sustained in October and, as expected, Tim Sestito will be returned to Albany.
The Devils are coming off of yet another shootout loss, this time coming against the Columbus Blue Jackets.
The Metropolitan Division is completely gridlocked at the moment. The Philadelphia Flyers, Columbus Blue Jackets, New York Rangers, and Devils are all tied for 3rd place at 38 points. The Flyers currently hold the playoff spot due to tiebreakers. The Carolina Hurricanes and Ottawa Senators currently sit right behind them at 37 points in the Wild Card race.
Cory Schneider will look to get off his recent “Schneid” (pun intended) and will look to help the team win a crucial game.
