New Jersey Devils vs Chicago Blackhawks – Game 2 of 2 – January 3, 2014
Devils TV – MSG+
Blackhawks TV – CSNC
The New Jersey Devils and Chicago Blackhawks will wrap up their season series tonight at the Prudential Center. The first game ended with the Blackhawks dominating the Devils in a 5-2 decision on December 23rd at the United Center.
The good news with the New Jersey Devils (17-16-8) is that they have only lost in regulation once since their loss to the Pittsburgh Penguins on December 13.
The bad news: the one loss came to the Chicago Blackhawks (28-7-8).
In that stretch, tonight’s starting goaltender Martin Brodeur has gone 4-0-1. Jaromir Jagr has also been great as of late having 2 goals and 6 assists in that same span.
The Devils have been playing pretty good hockey for the most part. Their play hasn’t quite earned them a spot in the playoffs to this point as the rest of the Metropolitan Division continues to keep pace with each other.
The Philadelphia Flyers currently hold 3rd place in the division at 44 points compared to the Devils’ 42. The Washington Capitals are in 2nd in the division with 46 points.
The Devils are tied for 4th with the New York Rangers in the Wild Card race, 1 point ahead of the Carolina Hurricanes, and 2 ahead of the Columbus Blue Jackets. The Ottawa Senators sit in 3rd with one more point than the Devils. The Toronto Maple Leafs and Detroit Red Wings currently hold the two Wild Card spots with 47 and 46 points respectively.
Chicago sits atop the Western Conference with 64 points and first in the Central Division, 3 points ahead of the St. Louis Blues.
The New York Rangers will play the Pittsburgh Penguins tonight in a Metropolitan Division matchup.
