Preview 1/18: Devils Visit Phoenix

Devils (20-18-11) at Coyotes (22-16-9)

Radio - WFAN 660 AM & 101.9 FM

Last 10: Devils (5-2-3), Coyotes (3-6-1)

Big Story: Both teams are sitting just a few points out of a playoff spot. This makes each game pivotal. The Devils currently sit on a six game point streak, while the Coyotes have been struggling as of late. However, the Coyotes had a big shutout win over the Vancouver Canucks on Thursday night.

Team Scope:

Devils - This is the conclusion of a four-game road trip and have lost two of three in a shootout. They are now 0-8 in shootouts and set an NHL record for most consecutive shootout losses with 12 straight.

Any way they can just build on this point streak is important. The Devils need wins, but a regulation loss does not get you anywhere.

Coyotes - The Coyotes have struggled in 2014, along with Canadian Olympic goalie Mike Smith. Prior to Thursday’s shutout, Smith has not posted a .900 save percentage or better in the new year.

Who’s Hot: The Devils goaltending tandem have only given up seven goals in their last six starts. Ryane Clowe‘s six game point streak was snapped in Thursday night’s loss to the Colorado Avalanche.
