Another Albany Devils 3-game weekend is in the books and it looks like the Devils are starting to turn things around.
The Albany Devils defeated the Utica Comets in a 2-1 victory at the Times Union Center in Albany in front of 4,105 fans.
All of the scoring would happen in the 2nd period as the Devils rattled off two straight goals before Utica would try to come back but would fail to do so once the final horn sounded.
Mike Sislo started off the scoring with his 17th goal of the season after receiving a feed from Reece Scarlett. Sislo’s goal was his 30th point of the season and Scarlett’s assist was his 13th of the year. He now stands at 17 points.
About 90 seconds later, Reid Boucher scored his 14th goal of the season to move the score to 2-0. Boucher’s goal moves his point total to 26 with the A-Devils this season. Scott Timmins registered his 19th assist and 29th point of the season on the goal.
Scott Wedgewood would have 16 shots come his way and he stopped 15 to get his 9th win of the season. He is now 9-11-0-3 on the season.
The Devils’ penalty kill went 16-for-16 this weekend and tallied two goals. Head Coach Rick Kowalsky had this to say about them (courtesy of the Albany Devils):
“They’ve been playing well, they’ve been playing hard and I thought both teams were ready to play a hard game,” said Head Coach Rick Kowalsky. “Obviously when the specialty teams take it over it certainly has an impact. Then on Sunday, your guys maybe are a little more fatigued and you have to ride some of your specialty team guys more.”
The Devils are now only 5 points out of first in the Northeast Division and have gained significant ground on the Springfield Falcons. However, they will now be off for 5 days until they play the Wilkes-Barre/Scranton Penguins in Atlantic City.
The Devils are 29-17-3-5 (W-L-OTL-SOL) and sit in 5th place in the Eastern Conference. In the AHL, the playoff system remains how it used to be in the NHL. They are only 2 points behind 4th place but only 3 points ahead of 9th.
