New Jersey Devils Practice: Steve Bernier Misses For "Personal" Reasons

The New Jersey Devils practice was held today at the AmeriHealth Pavilion in Newark as they continue to prepare for Thursday’s game against the Columbus Blue Jackets at the Prudential Center.

Tom Gulitti reported today that Steve Bernier did not attend practice due to “personal” reasons. Not much more was revealed on that news. I would assume that Bernier will return tomorrow or Thursday, but the Devils are playing it close to the vest with the actual details. Hopefully, it isn’t anything serious.

The lines were the same as Monday, outside of Jacob Josefson filling in for Steve Bernier:

Forwards:Dainius ZubrusTravis Zajac-Jaromir Jagr; Adam HenriquePatrik EliasDamien Brunner; Ryane CloweAndrei LoktionovMichael Ryder; Ryan Carter – Jacob Josefson – Stephen Gionta.

Defensemen: Andy GreeneMark Fayne; Bryce SalvadorMarek Zidlicky; Anton VolchenkovPeter Harrold; Eric Gelinas – Jon Merrill.

Goaltenders: Cory Schneider, Martin Brodeur.

Reaction: Pete DeBoer mentioned yesterday that these lines aren’t exactly the ones that will be seen on Saturday. He also said that he wants to keep Henrique, Clowe, and Ryder together so we will have to see where things go from here in practice.

The team would later work on the powerplay and Gulitti provided the groupings:

First unit
Up front: Jagr, Zajac, Elias. Pointmen: Brunner, Zidlicky.

Second unit

Up front: Clowe, Henrique, Ryder. Pointmen: Gelinas, Greene..

Gulitti also posted a picture of Martin Brodeur shooting on Cory Schneider in their shootout practice today. You can see that picture here, courtesy of Tom. If you copy and paste the image link, it will take you to the picture.

Also, in case you missed it, the Devils posted a video of Jaromir Jagr talking about Sochi. It can be founded in the Hot Around the Web section of the homepage or right here.
