Uniondale, NY - The New Jersey Devils exploded with four goals in the second period during today’s 6-1 win over the New York Islanders. Jaromir Jagr scored his 700th career goal, the third player to do so in the Nassau Coliseum.

Adam Henrique opened the scoring with a power play goal at 5:00 in the first period. It was his third goal in just two days.

The Devils then exploded in the second period, starting with Jagr’s milestone goal that was redirected in off the skate of an Islander defenseman. Just 1:09 later, Ryane Clowe scored his fifth goal of the season during a power play. Henrique made a sweet pass through his legs to set up the goal.

Marek Zidlicky and Mark Fayne would add two more goals in the second period for the Devils. Kyle Okposo scored the lone Islander goal on a deflection at 6:14.

The Devils sat back for most of the remainder of the game, but late in the third period it started to get chippy. After Ryan Carter checked an Islander, Travis Hamonic attacked him along the Devils bench, warranting a seven-minute power play for the Devils.

Eric Gelinas scored his seventh goal during the long man-advantage giving the Devils their fourth power play goal of the game.

Martin Brodeur had a slow day at work, only facing 19 shots and stopping 18 of them. He made some strong saves in the opening period and looks to be back to his November self.

The Devils will head back to Jersey tomorrow for another day game against the San Jose Sharks at 3:00 at the Prudential Center. The Devils are playing extremely well, scoring 11-goals in their last two games. They are looking for their second three-game winning streak this season. If they keep up this play, they will make a run to the playoffs.
