Newark, N.J. – The New Jersey Devils failed to extend their two game win streak since the Olympic break.
The Devils played fairly well for most of the game and led the San Jose Sharks for a short amount of time in the second period before giving up three unanswered goals.
Adam Henrique scored in his third straight game, giving him 18-goals on the season. He also added an assist to the Patrik Elias goal.
The Sharks capitalized on a few mistakes by the Devils. Andy Greene and Eric Gelinas both threw blind passes, giving Sharks forwards Raffi Torres and Patrick Marleau easy goals to put the game away.
The Devils had a few chances to tie the game in the third period, but Sharks forward Matt Nieto put the game away with a one-time slap shot that beat Cory Schneider blocker side.
The Devils lost out on two very important points in the standings. With a win tonight, the Devils would have been just one point out of playoff contention, but they instead sit three. There is still time for the Devils to make up ground.
They take on the Detroit Red Wings on Tuesday night in an important inter-conference matchup between two teams fighting for a playoff spot. The Wings currently sit tied for the eighth spot with 68 points.
