The New Jersey Devils and Buffalo Sabres will conclude their season series tonight against the Buffalo Sabres in a game that is crucial due to the Devils standing only 3 points out of a playoff spot going into the night.
Tonight, they will travel to upper New York to take on a team that is 1-8-1 in their last 10 games. Buffalo has one less home win (12-20-6) than the Devils have road wins (13-18-7) this season as the Devils have not seen nearly the same success on the road as they’ve seen at home.
The Devils (32-28-15) are coming off of a huge win against the Florida Panthers last night in a game where Travis Zajac recorded his first career hat trick in the 6-3 win. Cory Schneider was called in relief last night after Martin Brodeur gave up 3 goals on 9 shots.
The Devils did not have a morning skate this morning but it is widely assumed that Cory Schneider will start tonight. It remains to be seen if Martin Brodeur will play another game this season but Pete DeBoer was quick to note that Brodeur’s exit was a wake-up call more than anything.
The Buffalo Sabres (20-45-9) continue to reel, losing 11 of their last 13 games. They will look to play major spoiler tonight as the Devils are looking to close in on the last playoff spot.
Ryane Clowe did not accompany the team to Buffalo due to a suspected head injury that he suffered last night.
There is a lot to watch tonight and all relevant games start at 7 PM.
Toronto hosts the Calgary Flames in a game that is winnable for Toronto but any team that goes against Toronto these days is winnable for them as well. Toronto currently has 80 points this season.
Columbus will host the Colorado Avalanche in a huge game for the entire wild card picture. The Jackets are in the last spot at 82 points but can easily stall there. Columbus does not have an easy game this week.
The Washington Capitals host the Dallas Stars in a game that has two wild card contenders facing off. If Washington loses, they will stall at 81 points and will be in a tie with the Devils if NJ wins. This would set up the huge matchup between the two teams on Friday night.
