The 2nd Round of the 2014 NHL Playoff Predictions are starting to pop up with a few Game 7s taking place tonight. However, the one matchup that is already set comes from the Atlantic Region of the bracket as the (A1) Boston Bruins will take on the (A3) Montreal Canadiens.

The Bruins are coming of a decisive 4-1 series victory over the (WC2) Detroit Red Wings. That matchup was one of the few that were accurate in my East 1st Round Predictions. The Canadiens are fresh off of a dominating 4-0 series victory over the (A2) Tampa Bay Lightning. I had picked the Canadiens to win but in 7 games, not 4.

The Bruins are riding the hot hand of G Tuukka Rask who posted a .961 save percentage in the first round. Patrice Bergeron had 5 points and Milan Lucic had 3 goals. (

The Canadiens are finding success from Brendan Gallagher and Rene Bourque. Both had 3 goals in the sweep (

Each team has their own established chippy player. For Montreal it is P.K. Subban and for Boston it is Brad Marchand. There will surely be some fireworks between the two as Marchand has already spoken out and called Subban a “dirty player.” While that is a reasonable statement, it may be the pot calling the kettle black.

Discipline is definitely going to be a big factor in this series. These two teams are meeting for the 34th time in the Stanley Cup Playoffs and the rivalry between the two teams has never been stronger.

This is going to be a very entertaining series and it will come down to whether or not Montreal’s special teams improve. Boston will burn them to the ground in that department if it doesn’t shape up.

I think Boston continues to roll. Boston in 6 games.
