Group A’s games started with Canada recording their second straight 6-1 victory, this time at the hands of the Italians.
Canada (4-0-1-0) have now clinched their spot in the playoffs after securing their 13th point but still find themselves in 2nd place. Italy (1-0-0-4), who was just promoted for this year’s competition, is in danger of relegation again as they remain tied for 7th with 3 points.
In the other Group A matchup, Sweden took care of business against Slovakia in a 3-1 win.
Sweden (4-1-0-0) also clinched a spot in the Playoff round with the win, and also lead the group by 1 point (14 total) over Canada. Slovakia (1-0-1-3, 4 pts) is also playing with fire as they are in 6th but only stand a point ahead of the tie for 7th.
