New Jersey Devils defensive prospect Alexander Urbom has decided to leave the Devils and the NHL for a new opportunity in the KHL for Severstal Cherpovets.
The defenseman went through a tumultuous season in 2013-14. He was on the Devils’ roster through preseason, but was waived and claimed by the Washington Capitals prior to the start of the season. Urbom, 23, played just 20 games with the Caps, scoring one goal and adding one assist.
But his play was not good enough to stay on the NHL roster, the Capitals eventually waived Urbom. The Devils decided to re-claim him in joy of having their prospect back.
However, he has left the NHL for the Russian Kontinental Hockey League, but that is not the end of the world. The Devils still retain his rights should he want to come back.
