The NHL released the official order for the 2014 NHL Draft in Philadelphia. The draft will be on June 27-28.
The New Jersey Devils will pick at #30 in the first round for the second time ever. The Devils will then pick 41st (2nd round), 71st (3rd), 131st (5th), 152nd (6th), and 161st (6th). The Devils are locked into the 30 spot and cannot move that pick due to the whole Ilya Kovalchuk saga from few years back. The Devils had their first taken away, but later the decision was partially reversed due to new ownership in New Jersey.
The Devils are without a 4th round pick due to their 2013 trade with the Winnipeg Jets to acquire Alexei Ponikarovsky. They are without a 7th round pick from their 2013 trade with Phoenix (soon to be Arizona) Coyotes to acquire Steve Sullivan.
Tom Gulitti posted the entire draft in his blog post. Here is just the first round, courtesy of Tom Gulitti’s post:
5. NY Islanders
10. Anaheim (from Ottawa)
19. Tampa Bay
20. San Jose
21. St. Louis (conditional to Buffalo)
28. Tampa Bay (from NY Rangers)
29. Los Angeles
GM Lou Lamoriello has mentioned that the organization is still ranking the draft prospects and final discussions are being made about the draft. The Devils are able to trade into the first round but cannot have the 30th overall pick involved.
