Another UFA forward is now locked up.
The New Jersey Devils and F Cam Janssen have agreed on a 1-year, 2-way deal. The contract is his 5th straight 1-year deal and Cam will make an NHL salary that is $25,000 more than last season. His AHL salary is set at $115,000, 10,000 more than last season for his AHL salary.
Cam finally hit the back of the net for the Devils last season as he scored 3 goals for the NHL squad in 24 games. Cam also contributed 3 assists with the Albany Devils in 27 games.
This past season was the first time Cam has scored more than 1 goal in a season since 2003-04 in the OHL.
There is certainly a lot of reasons why many fans do not want Cam back. The Devils have plenty of youth coming up through the ranks and adding Janssen onto the NHL squad does fill a roster spot that could be used for the likes of Damon Severson, Reid Boucher, Joe Whitney, and many others in Albany right now.
Cam does bring toughness to the team and he isn’t completely useless. For that reason, I wouldn’t mind seeing Cam stay in the AHL for most of the season. He is a fan-favorite, mainly because of his personality, and many wouldn’t mind seeing him under contract as long as it’s for Albany, not New Jersey.
The Devils now only have 5 more forwards that will be UFAs in July. The three members of the CBGB line are among those still unsigned.
