New Jersey Devils defenseman Mark Fayne has begun talking to other teams around the league, primarily the Edmonton Oilers.
As of 12:01 am eastern time Wednesday, pending unrestricted free agents could speak with teams around the league, but could not talk about signing a contract. The Oilers are very interested in signing Fayne to help their weak blue line.
Fayne, 27, is coming off a two-year contract with an AAV of $1.3 million. He is hoping to receive a deal for four or five years. Fayne is scheduled to meet with the Oilers on Thursday. The Oilers are also looking into defenseman Deryk Engelland.
It has been said that Fayne is talking to six or seven teams around the league, but the Oilers are the only team reported as of now.
The Devils and Lou Lamoriello have expressed interest in re-signing Fayne to a multi-year extension, but it is not out of the question that the shut down defenseman tests free agency.
