Devils Select Right Wing Connor Chatham 71st Overall

The Devils select forward (thank God), Connor Chatham in the 2014 NHL Draft, but this one is different. Chatham is a very large body at 6-foot-2 222 lbs who has some scoring touch. In his rookie season with Plymouth of the OHL, Chatham scored 13 goals and added 18 assists in 54 games.

This is a guy who may not be the most offensively skilled forward, but his size and physicality will help him break into the NHL as a checking forward. He fits the Devils system very well. Chatham grew up cheering for the St. Louis Blues and he models his game after Blues captain David Backes.

One thing that worries me about Chatham is his plus/minus. In the USHL in 2012-13 he scored 18 goals and had 35 points, but was minus-12. This past season with Plymouth, he was minus-19.
