Lou Lamoriello has given a little more information regarding the NJ Devils free agency situation.
Courtesy of Tom Gulitti, Lamoriello said that the team will definitely qualify the 3 RFA’s that were on the NHL roster at some point. Those guys would be Eric Gelinas, Jacob Josefson, and Adam Larsson. Lou then went on to mention that some players at the minor league level will not be qualified.
Keith Kinkaid will almost certainly be qualified after a career season and Lou has previously stated that they will retain the rights of Mattias Tedenby and Alexander Urbom despite the fact that they signed to a KHL contract. Qualifying those two players would give the Devils their rights for a little while longer.
The minor league players that will be an RFA this summer, not including the players mentioned above, will be:
Teams will have until 5 PM EST on Monday to make qualifying offers to restricted free agents or else they will become unrestricted free agents once the window opens on July 1st. The Devils have about $9.7 million open in cap space and Lou could lean towards using their compliance buyout now that the cap is lower than expected.
