Another link in the NJ Devils Free Agency plan has been revealed.
Tom Gulitti revealed who the New Jersey Devils did not qualify and thankfully, it is a short list. F Riley Boychuk and D Harry Young will not return next season.
Riley Boychuk finished off his 3-year, entry level contract this season. The Devils acquired him last summer in exchange for Henrik Tallinder in a 1-for-1 trade with the Buffalo Sabres.
Nothing really clicked for Boychuk as he played 18 games with the Albany Devils and only had 1 goal and 1 assist. He was then assigned to the Elmira Jackals of the ECHL. He played 25 games with them and only had 1 goal and 2 assists. His best season since he was drafted was with the Forth Worth Brahmas of the CHL where he tallied 8 goals and 9 assists in 41 games.
Defenseman Harry Young is finishing up a 1-year, $550,000 deal that saw his AHL salary at $70,000. He only played 10 games with the Albany crew this season and had a -1 rating with no points. The 7th round pick in the 2008 NHL Draft then played for Elmira where he participated in 37 games and had 3 goals with 1 assist. He also had a -5 plus/minus rating.
The attention will now shift back to the team’s UFA’s such as Ryan Carter, Mark Fayne, Stephen Gionta, and Steve Bernier. Lou has mentioned that they have submitted an offer to Fayne, but their offer may not be equal to another team’s. He has also mentioned many times that he would like to re-sign the 3 CBGB members as well.
UFA Free Agency opens tomorrow at noon where players can talk to teams and finally talk about contracts but cannot officially sign them.
