The RFA class in this year’s NJ Devils Free Agency class continues to shorten.
Goalies Keith Kinkaid and Maxime Clermont both signed 1-year, 2-way deals.
Kinkaid’s deal will see him make an NHL salary of $600,000 with an AHL salary of $105,000. Clermont would make an NHL salary of $605,000 and a minor league salary of $50,000. Quite the incentive for Mr. Clermont to break through the ranks.
Cap Geek was the first to break the story and followed up by Tom Gulitti.
Kinkaid played in 43 games with Albany last season and went 24-13-5 with a .912 save percentage. Kinkaid impressed many last season and will emerge as the backup to Cory Schneider going into training camp this season. It will be interesting to see if Keith can continue to grow in the NHL and be a solid backup for the team.
The contract is only 1-year, however, so it could turn out that he could have a breakout year and be signed elsewhere a la Scott Clemmensen when Martin Brodeur had his serious injury a few seasons ago.
Clermont played in the ECHL for just about all of last season. With the Elmira Jackals, he played in 17 games and posted a 3.34 GAA and went 6-9-0-1. In 10 regular season games with Orlando, Clermont posted a 3.35 GAA and finished 5-3-0-1. He played in 3 playoff games with Orlando and went 1-2.
The goalie depth chart most likely is as follows:
