Jaromir Jagr 2014-15 Preview: Can He Do the Unthinkable?

Ok, so maybe Jaromir Jagr posting a high number of points isn’t unthinkable. After all, his career high is 149 in 1995-96 and still managed to put up 123 in 2005-06 with the Rangers. That was also almost 10 seasons ago. The Jaromir Jagr 2014-15 player preview is much different than the 2013-14 one, that’s for sure.

Jaromir Jagr is turning 43 next February and is still playing like he’s in his early-to-mid-30s. He played in all 82 games, had 24 goals and 43 assists for 67 points. By the time the international play was said and done in 2013-14, Jagr played in 18 games for the Czech Republic and tallied 6 goals and 6 assists for 12 total points.

Now, another year has passed and Jagr (allegedly) is getting older. Jaromir Jagr is the type of player that isn’t satisfied with anything. In his interview at the end of the last game against the Bruins, he was mad he didn’t put up more numbers. When we look back to last summer and last training camp, everyone was worried he would always be injured and was a waste of money.

This summer, everyone was perfectly fine with the $1.5 million raise to $3.5 million in base salary. He even gets $2 million in player bonuses as long as he plays in enough games. Throughout the season, many wondered if 2013-14 would be the last season for the legend, but he was always leaning towards coming back for yet another season. Who can blame him when he’s putting up the best numbers on the team he is playing on?

Jaromir Jagr is turning 43 next February and is still playing like he’s in his early-to-mid-30s.

Next season, Jaromir Jagr will be expected of a lot more than he was expected of last season. While his LW partner on the first line was shifted around a lot, this season it will be clear cut. With the addition of Mike Cammalleri, Jagr has a set LW-mate and his line will probably be Cammalleri – Travis Zajac – Jagr. Not bad considering the second and third lines have a lot of potential there as well.

Jaromir Jagr won’t surprise as many as he did last season. The only way he could surprise people now is if he doesn’t produce. The top line of the New Jersey Devils will have a lot of expectations and they will look to propel this team into the playoffs next season.
