New Jersey Devils Fan Spotlight: Megan From Bayonne

New Jersey Devils Fan Spotlight is now about two months deep and we at Pucks and Pitchforks hope you’re enjoying reading and learning about your fellow fans. As always, if you would like to be featured in an upcoming article all you have to do is contact us on Facebook or Twitter (@pitchforkedpuck). Today we have Megan Trapp, 24, from Bayonne, NJ in the spotlight. Megan is a huge Devils fan – so much so that she’s been to over 100 games and has seen every team play the Devils at least once. That is what I call dedication. When she doesn’t make it out to the Rock, she’s always watching at home with her gameday superstitions: there always has to be popcorn and there is no blue allowed to be worn when playing the Rangers. Megan grew up playing soccer and ice skating, although she prefers hockey skates to figure skates. When she’s not watching hockey, she’s either reading or baking (yum).

Let’s hear what Megan has to say about her journey as a Devils’ fan:

1) What made you become a Devils’ fan?

I grew up in a hockey family divided. My father was a Devils fan, my grandfather a Rangers fan, and my uncle an Islanders fan. My parents made sure I grew up watching Devils games on tv with them from a young age so I would know “good hockey.” When I was very young, my dad taught me a phrase to say to my grandfather any time we had a hockey game on. I would say to him “Rangers suck.” Haha! It made for some fun family get togethers. Needless to say I’ve pretty much been a Devils fan since I was born.

2) What are your thoughts on the season so far?

This season has been hit and miss. We started off strong, and I had such high hopes like everyone else. We have players that stand on their heads every night and play their hearts out, but then a mistake is made and the game is blown. We’ve improved immensely since the coaching change, but the sicknesses and injuries keep haunting us. It is a season of ups and downs.

3) Who is your favorite current Devil? Favorite former Devil? Why?

My favorite current Devil, Adam Larsson. He’s young and has a lot of talent. With the right coaching staff behind him now, he has really shown just how good he can be on the ice and just how much he wants to play the game.

My favorite former Devil, Scott Stevens. I grew up watching him play. I loved the physicality he played with and watching him throw those hip checks was always a highlight of any game.

4) What’s your favorite part of attending Devils games? If you haven’t been able to make it out to any games, do you have any plans of doing so in the future? What are you looking forward to?

My favorite part of attending games is the atmosphere. The electricity that runs through the Rock when the team is playing and the fans are cheering. NJ has a lot of passionate fans. It’s also amazing to get to meet Devils fans both new and old and discuss season stats, team history and favorite game memories with them.

5) What’s the most memorable game you’ve ever been at, or remember watching on television?

The most memorable game for me was Scott Stevens jersey retirement night. It was an honor for me to be there to watch a player I admired and grew up watching play the game of hockey have his number retired to the rafters. I had chills throughout the whole ceremony and it made the game that night that much more special to me. It made me realize how much I loved being a Devils fan.

We want to thank Megan, as well as all of our former participants, and hope you’ll be next!
